Hello.

I am wondering if anyone has done any personalization centered around roles, instead of users.  I would like to be able to present different text to users based on role membership.  I was thinking I could use personalization in DNN to help me accomplish it, but everything I've seen so far seems to indicate that I could only do stuff based on users.

If anyone out there has done something like this in the past, I would like to hear about how you accomplished this.

Thanks!

Aaron

hi Aaron,
your question is a bit vague as all DNN sites work from this idea.  you can assign each dnn tab or module visiblility based on your users role.

After reading my post, I realize I didn't word my question correctly.

I'm looking to do content personalization in a module based on a role.  Everyone who has access to the tab will have access to the module, but I need different content displayed in the module based on the user's role.  That's what I meant when I asked about roles and personalization.  I hope this clears it up.

I know I could have multiple modules, each with the different content, but under the model we are using, each portal can have a different number of roles and the admin overhead gets to be very big.

gotcha.

dnn5 is supposed to add social networking features but i think these will be user based.  you'll probably need a custom module to do what you're asking.

I may be missing the boat on your question, but I wrote a module to do something like that.  It is a simple Text/HTML module that lets you specify different content for different roles and the priority in which that content should show if somebody is a member of more than one role containing content for that module.  You can get it free from my website here.

I have it set up and in use on a website I just deployed for a client here www.stackablecrew.com though to the end user it is completely transparent (and unless you register for her site you won't see the difference. :)
