Ok, my "dedicated" server - according to what they call (VPS) at EasyCGI is down for more than 13 hours and I've received no support at all. No email, no support ticket, nothing.

Now I'm planning to move to another hosting. I have some question about backing up and restoring DNN.

Fortunately enough, my database is placed in a different server. It remains undamaged and unaccessed when the site's server is down.

So I'll copy all the folders on my current site and paste them into my new directory. After setting up DNS and other configuration, will it work?

Thanks,

Duc

Yes.

13 hours down is unacceptable, just make sure that it was their problem, not yours, before making the switch. Otherwise, you just move your problem elsewhere.

Thanks for replying.

What about machine validation key? Will I just leave it unchanged?

I'm quite sure that it's their problem. The server does not start, no matter what I try. DotNetNuke can not bring down a server, can't it?

duchoangle,

A few comments regarding your situation.

I have a tutorial about backing up and restoring a DNN site available at http://www.mitchelsellers.com, you have the general idea of backing up ALL website files and migration to the new server.  You will then need to properly configure IIS and file permissions on the new server.

If you switch to a different hosting provider I would also strongly recommend moving the database to a new hosting provider as well.  Having the database in close physical proxmiity to the webserver helps cut down on database connection latency and helps keep a solid performing site.

If you are looking for a new provider, I highly recommend 3Essentials, their support is awesome and the plans are resonably priced.  (If you are interested please click my referral link in my signature here....it is appreciated).

Regarding your machine key values, those MUST remain the same.  if they get changed no users will be able to login to the site....

Thanks Mitchel,

I'll purchase a server from Server4You.Com shortly. From what a person recommend and other people's review on the web, I think they might be a good place to land my application.
