Hi All,

How compliant is DNN to the generally accepted Accessibility standards such as Section 508? One would hope this is sorted since this is now law is many parts of the world and using a framework such as DNN would automatically provide this compliance...

I know this is not a very exciting topic, but it is an important one especially for business sites.

Thanks,

Sam

Out of the box, DNN does not pass Sec 508 compatibity tests.  Most of this is due to no ALT tags or blank ALT tags and the like, and there are issues with AJAX as well.  But as long as you pay attention to content, and review third party modules, you can meet the Sec 508 requirements.  The key is that the law says that access to content should be equivalent for handicapped and non-handicapped individuals, not identical.  A missing ALT tag isn't an issue is the image conveyed no content or the content is available in a reader that won't display the image.

Hey, you can't do any worse than most of the US agencies...  :)

Jeff,

Thanks for this...Greatly appreciated...

I think it would be very useful if someone from the DNN team could post a statement about the current status of DNN with Accessibility and future plans for it. I know it is not a a terribly "Headline" grabbing subject, but it is nevertheless important since as I have mentioned before it is law in parts of the world.....

Thanks,

Sam
