I've tried this several ways and nothing seems to work. I'm stuck and don't now how to proceed.

I'm running DNN on a Windows 2003 server r2 box. I have upgraded my .Net Framework to 2.0 and 3.5. I started out with DNN.3.2 which ran with no problem. But now, I am attempting to upgrade to any version in the 4.x series and I can't get it to work. Everytime I get:

Duplicate Portal Users

We have detected that the following Users have duplicate entries (they exist in more than one portal). You need to be aware that after the upgrade, the password for some of these users may have been automatically changed (as the system now only uses one password per user, rather than one password per user per portal). It is important to remember that your Users can always retrieve their password using the Password Reminder feature, which will be sent to the Email addess shown in the table.

Then it lists two users and info and there is a "Click here to proceed with upgrade" link. So I click the link and the page just recycles back to the Duplicate Users Error.  I've tried 4.6, 4.7 and now 4.8. Nothing makes a difference. I have also tried going through each table and finding all duplicate portal entries. I thought I had them all removed. But still nothing.

So I'm now lost. Now matter what I do this thing just keeps repeating over and over.

I have seen SEVERAL posts in this forum about this issue, a few are my own, but NOONE evers seems to help figure it out. Its like they just get ignored. I have also searched google for this issue and there are actually websites out there stuck in this same position, but noone has an answer.

CAN ANYONE HELP????

you should upgrade in steps, going to DNN 4.0.3, 4,3,7, 4,4,1 , 4.6.2 and 4.8.0. This shall solve your issue.

When I upgraded from 4.03, I upgraded from 4.03 to 4.37 to 4.4.1 to 4.8.1. 

Seemed to work fine.  Thanks for the note Sebastian.
