After spending about 14 hours fooling around with SQL and IIS (a good learning experience ), I revisited the document mentioned in the very first thread on Vista: http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/ and took a look at the entry called "Setting up the Development Environment (WITHOUT IIS). The steps (involving DL Visual Web Developer Express, SQL Server Express and Install Version of DNN) worked like MAGIC. The Web Developer Program simply takes over and you DO NOT HAVE TO alter anything! Everything installs WITH VISTA without difficulty.  Just wanted to share this for any Newbies (like me) who may be struggling with an install issue. Looking forward to learning more about DNN.
