I'm having this problem too - with two sites on the same server.  They were working fine before and now we can't log in at all due to this error.  Anyone got any suggestion at all how to solve it?

Using 4.8.0 - would an upgrade help at all?

I found a solution to this problem, which worked in my case.

In web.config I changed this:

    <machineKey validationKey="AutoGenerate,IsolateApps" decryptionKey="xxx" decryption="3DES" validation="SHA1" />

to this:

    <machineKey validationKey="xxx" decryptionKey="xxx" decryption="3DES" validation="SHA1" />

The xxx I left as what was there before and made the validationKey and decryptionKey identical.  It solved all my problems after an awful lot of stress!  This was ona shared hosting environment.  According to the host there is no server farm or cluster being used, but it's impossible for me to know whether this is accurate or not.

I'm also keen for a fix on this... been asking for maybe a year plus but most here don't know or care.

It happens a bit and is really frustrating - when a button or link is clicked before the page finishes loading.

Unfortunately I'm not sure if this fix is the way to go as I don't show a validationKey of AutoGenerate,IsolateApps but an actual key string for this and the decryptionKey.

Anyone sorted it for this?  Or is it safe to remove all these and just use "xxx" or have them matching?
