When I export to excel I use a DataGrid and render it to a response stream.  No core modifications needed.  I have an "Export Helper" object that I use to handle the export.

Also the latest Survey module has an Export to Excel link in the Settings page for the module. It uses the method Mitchel describes.

Hi!

I have the same problem, when I export a GridView to excel, there are error and only the same way to modify default.vb can resolve it.

I had researched the survey code said by Michael,it can export to excel ,but the different between them is I used GridView.RenderControl method when invoke export .

So the question is, Cant use the "Rendercontrol" method of control in module development, else have to modify the default.vb files.

Depending on your needs, you can also export to excel using XML and XSLT.

if you want to just render the gridview with the rendercontrol method without editing the default.vb. You can use my method which is to cast it to an htmltable first Dim tblExcel As Table = DirectCast(gvExcel.Controls(0), Table) tblExecel.rendercontrol(hwHTML) the only drawback, which I'm still looking for a solution, is that the gridview loses it's css formatting after you cast it to a table.
