Hi,

I need to be able to offer functionality for certain users (not administrators) to create pages on a site.  The user should be able to (1) give the page a name, (2)  select the parent page.  By default, the new page will use the default skin/container, will be available to everyone, and will add a Text/HTML module to the content pane (which is the default behavior right now anyway).

Is anyone aware of a commercial module that already does this?  The alternative is to write my own - which is what I'll have to do if there is nothing out there.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Al

Al,

There used to be a third party module from Smart-Thinker called "HomePage" which did what you're asking.  Unfortunately I think it went unsupported several versions ago.  You may be able to get the code from them, however, as I think he's giving it out to those that want to go with it.  It's in Visual C I think.

You can certainly get some good information on the challenges he wasn't able to overcome there.  If you find a solution or make one I'd be interested in it.

EDIT: www.Smart-Thinker.com

I'm too poor for anything other than the community version

I'm going to write a module (or at least attempt to...)  to do what I need - because there are few other requirements I forgot about  - such as giving a pre-designated role the ability to edit the Text/HTML module on the page, the ability to move the page - and the ability to delete the page.  I'm sure I'll think of other things as I put this together.

I'm not sure how any of this so far is different from giving a person edit rights on a particular tab. You can also create a default template for the page and include the text module on it.

There may be way to do what you want with a very well supported module:  XMOD

It's more of a database module but the records could be the menu and the pages could be a text field.  This is quite easy to do with XMOD.  See www.dnndev.com
