We have installed a test DNN site on a server and have found that when we access it for the first time ( from any client computer ) the DNN site is quite slow in loading up. But it loads up faster when we subsequently try it from the same client computer.

  1. We would like to know why the site is behaving like this.
  2. Is it possible to optimize the site, both for performance and speed. If yes to what extent and how?

IJ Singh,

This is not something that is unique to DotNetNuke. As an ASP.NET web application, the site will be fully compiled the first time a user accesses the site. Subsequent visits will not have this issue (and will be noticeably faster). The most important thing to lessen the frequency of this issue is to have frequent traffic on your site - as if there is no traffic for an extended period of time, the site will be unloaded from memory and the whole process will start again.

Hope that helps,

Ian

I had the same problem: have a look at www.dnnportal.eu - they offer a solution.
