I have a live website running on a company network and I used to have the development installation on my local pc with SQL Server 2005 Express using an .mdf file for the database that was created automatically when installing DNN.

I reinstalled my pc the other day and now I want to install a fresh development site that uses NOT an .mdf file BUT a database I created with the SQL Server 2005 Express Management Suite. Is this possible? It looks like the only options are the built in option with the .mdf file or connecting with a SQL Server 2005 Database.

I also tried to let my local installation make use of another "duplicate" of my live database on the database server, but then it automatically redirects to the live site. Can I fix this by just editing some fields in the database and editing the web.config?

Or do I have to go the long way and reinstall all my own modules, execute all my SQL code for my Database and Stored Procedures, recreate all my pages and database entries etc etc for my local version??

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

The redirect is probably happening because there is not an entry for the new URL as a Portal Alias for your main portal.  You can setup Portal Aliases in the PortalAlias table, or through Site Settings, or Host->Portals.

Hope it helps,
