I'm new to DNN and I'm attempting to write a simple portal that consumes a web service (server-side) and displays that information in data-bound controls. I've already written a web service proxy client that returns XmlTextReaders when called. I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions about how to integrate this into the DNN DAL. The tutorials I've been reading all use a ModuleController that does a CBO.FillCollection on an IDataReader provided by the DataProvider which calls the concrete data provider. It's my understanding that CBO is a custom business object and it uses reflection to automatically fill objects using an IDataReader. In my case, since I have XML responses, should I even use CBO? Doesn't that require me to create objects to represent my XML responses and fill them?

Would it make sense to write my own concrete XmlDataProvider or something like that? If so are there any examples out there or tutorials about how to work with XML returned via web services?

Thanks,
Jake

I would not use the DNN DAL for this. The purpose of the DNN DAL is to support multiple data sources. If you have no desire to support any other data sources you are creating code you don't need.

I would use Linq to XML to do your data binding.
