I installed DNN 4.8.0 provided by GoDaddy, now I wonder how to upgrade it to 4.8.1. I downloaded the upgrade .zip. Now what, replace the files on my website with these in the zip? I could not find any upgrade instructions.

Any clues and feedback is appreciated.

Here is a good upgrade guide.

Hi AW,

I just ran the DNN 4.8.2 upgrade package against my 4.8.1 install on GoDaddy Shared Hosting. As long as you follow upgrade best practices (below), all should be good:

  • Backup All DNN Site files  & DB
  • Rename web.config to web.config.resources
  • Unzip the DNN 4.8.2 Upgrade files to your local PC
  • Copy up the new Installation files and folders to your GoDaddy DNN install (Make sure you don't blow away your exisiting desktop Modules, assuming you have more than the core set, as well as any custom graphics/icons).
  • After all files/folders  upload, make sure to copy out your DB strings (both of them!), your machine key (or else you're not logging in after the upgrade), and installation date from your renamed web.config resources file to their corresponding locations in Release.Config (the one you just uploaded to your GoDaddy Account)
  • Rename Release.config to Web.Config
  • Reapply permissions from your Root DNN folder down to the new folders/Files

Navigate to the site, and it should kick off the upgrade process!!
