Hello, I had a working ddn portal and wanted to change the authentication to Active Directory.  I logged in as host and installed the AD 1.00.00 module and did not get an error of any kind. However, when I logged out and tried to access the site I get the following error:

Security Exception

Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy.  To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file.

Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

Do I need to change setting in IIS or the web.config?

How do I overcome this issue?

What's the trust level on the site in the web.config? The provider requires Full trust but this shouldn't come into effect unless it's been enabled under Admin->Authentication and will throw a warning if Full Trust isn't detected.

When you say you installed the provider do you mean you just installed it or did you also go through the setup steps under Admin->Authentication? Did you make any other changes to your web.config? If you can't get back into the website commenting out all instances of <add name="Authentication"... /> under <httpModules> in your web.config should cancel out the AD provider (it doesn't get loaded on site launch).

Thank you Mike for your assistance, I know that you are busy.

I wanted to make sure that I was able to provide accurate information so I reinstalled DNN from scratch . I chose a typical installation and recieved no errors. I logged in as Host and navigatied to host settings. I selected authentication settings and clicked the install new authentication system. I browsed to the AD 1.00.00 install file and clicked next then accept then finely next again. The installation was successful.

I appear to be automatically logged out and when I try to log in and go to the admin/authentication as the documentation instructs. I am unable to log in and get the same message as earlier.

This is the trust setting in the web.config:

<

trust level="Medium" originUrl=".*"

/> I  I do not get a chance to edit in admin/authentication so I do not get the full trust error.

Other than the sql connection strings I have made no changes to the web.config which was originally the development.config file...

If I comment out the <httpmodules> and change the trust to full I get this error in the query string:

http://localhost/DotNetNuke/Default.aspx?error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

Ok, hopefully I am being clear with what I have done. What should I attempt now?

What version of DNN are you using so that I can try to recreate the problem? Usually on an install it's the release.config that you use for your web.config and the <trust level="Medium"... /> is commented out. I'm not sure off the top of my head what other differences there are between the two files but if you let me know which version you're using I can do a file compare on them.
