grantnlee,

Could you make sure that IIS is installed and also the .net framework is installed?

Take care,

.NET 2.0 is definitely installed.  I checked to be sure and it shows up in my list of currently installed programs through control panel.  I used to program with VB.NET and am familiar with this framework.

I had to install IIS prior to starting the DNN installation.  I just checked under Control Panel | Windows Components Wizard and it shows up as installed.  But when installing it, I do believe I accepted the default installation.  So as I look at what is included (checked), I see that I *do* have the following IIS components: Common Files, Docs, IIS Snap-In, SMTP Serviec, Printers Virtual Directory, and World Wide Web Service.  What was *not* included by default is: FTP Service, FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions, Remote desktop Web Connection, and Scripts Virtual Directory.

Thanks for your help with this.

Open a command window (click Start | Run, type cmd and press enter), then enter the following commands:

c:
cd %systemroot%\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727
aspnet_regiis -i
exit

This should fix the metabase problem if IIS was installed after .net 2.0.

You may want to open IIS Manager, right click on your website, select properties. Under the ASP.NET tab, confirm ASP.NET version 2.0 is selected. Click Ok.

I hope this is of some help to you.

BINGO!

It was the sequence in which they were installed!  I had .NET 2.0 but had never used IIS.  When I installed IIS *after* .Net framework, they were not fully in sync.

I still had to go back and search for the ASPNET user as it was still not showing up under the Security tab.  But it showed up in the advanced search and I was able to allocate the file access permissions no problem.

After those two fixes, the actual DNN installation executed flawlessly.  Thanks to you both for your help with this!!!

The problem might be that simple fire sharing is enabled.

Go to tools  folder options  view

and make sure simple file sharing is unchecked.  It is probally the last item on the list.
