I'm just starting to look at the different CMS tools available and came across DNN.  I'm looking for one that allows updates,etc on a development server first and then be able to promote the changes to the production server using signed cert via ftp.

Does DNN have this capability?  Or is there an add-on module to do this?

I see that MSSQL is the database used for DNN, can it use others like Firebird?

  • you can move the whole site from one server to another, like from dev to production, but this is not a preferred configuration and is comfortable only for initial setup or changing servers lateron
  • DNN 5 shall improve DNN handling this situation
  • you can use any SQL database, but a) it must be from Microsoft b) is not compact version and c) version number is at least 2000. This includes free express databases!
    besides there are commercial database providers for Oracle.
