Strike my very last post about the dropdownlist not binding, naturally i can search for 45 minutes on an issue, then post a 'help me' and then seconds later find exactly what i needed, binding selectedvalue!

yay.. but stll along the lines of my original gridview problem? any suggestions

Like this:

< asp:DropDownList ID="DropDownList1" runat="server" DataSource='<%# Eval("Category") %>'
SelectedValue='<%# Bind("Category") %>' EnableViewState="False" >

Michael,

Thanks for the reply, just after posting that question i figured it out and posted a response, however it isn't showing up as yet, the thread shows 8 posts total, but i see 5 on page 1, and 1 on page 2... fishy! now trying to solve the other issues as mentioned in my posts here such as using the ID of my datalist item as the selection parameter for the nested gridview - not going well!!

Don't use a nested GridView use a ListView. See:

The tutorial is not done but the code example is.

Michael,

Investigating your tutorial now!! thanks for the link, thoughi'm scared to broach the LINQ topic and its too late anyway in my project to do so i think. Perhaps my next one, that i have to start as soon as this one is done will tackle LINQ since you seem to be moving that way for everything! I'll see what i can learn from your code, thanks again:)

Charles
