Hi everybody,

I'm trying to find out if there is a way to force the javascript buttons in my skin to not dissapear when clicked. The buttons seem to work fine when I hover over the buttons and also when I mouse out of the buttons. But when I click the buttons the image disappears. If you want to try my skin out you can download it at http://sansone.no-ip.biz/graphicsphere.zip or view it live at http://www.graphicsphere.net/

Thanks for your help,
AJ Sansone, President

Well, it works fine in firefox, but firefox is a bit more forgiving on syntax. IE is the only browser I see an issue come up. I would check all your code around the onclick event for the buttons and make sure there are no issues with the "down" image call. Also note your running in quirks mode. (DNN causes quirks mode by default) This means IE will rely on how it wants to display your code vs what standards are. This can be a bit of an issue when rendering javascript based images. You should probably force it into standards mode. Do a quick search on the forums here for how to do it. If you have a hard time just let me know and I will repost how to.

On a side note any reason for javascript based buttons / links? Why not flash buttons or even standard links with image properties set?

I FOLLOWED DNNCREATIVE.COM'S METHOD TO CHANGE FROM QUIRK'S MODE TO STANDARDS MODE AND STILL THE JAVASCRIPT BUTTONS ARE DISAPPEARING AFTER CLICKING THEM.

HERE'S THE INSTRUCTIONS I FOLLOWED AND STILL GET THE SAME RESULTS http://www.dnncreative.com/tabid/231/Default.aspx

IN THE TUTORIAL IT SAYS, "THE ONLY PAGE YOU CHANGE THE MODE IN IS THE DEFAULT.ASPX FILE LOCATED IN THE ROOT DIRECTORY. WHAT ABOUT THE SKIN'S ASCX FILE?

If you are using DNN 4.4+ I suggest using the .doctype.xml option for forcing standards mode. Basically all you do is name a file: skinname.doctype.xml and inside it put the doctype declaration. This way its independant to the skin. Making the changes to the default.aspx should work as well but I personally have had issues / times when I couldn't get it to work as expected with my 4.4+ installations.

Not saying it will fix your problem but could help I really think the issue is around the syntax. Mainly cause it renders fine in firefox. I don't know enough javascript though to be of much help. On that deparment though.

Ok I got rid of my javascript buttons because they were causing dnn to load slowly and they kept dissapearing after clicking them so now I would like to add a .doctype.xml file to my skin's folder so that dnn switches into standards mode.

Where do I upload the .doctype.xml file? In the root directory or the skin's root directory? Also what is the suggested HTML Validation type for dnn? When I browse my website in INTERNET EXPLORER MOBILE none of my images and stylesheets load correctly. Is this because of the HTML validation setting?
