We have an events list page with over 100 entries on it and the page download size is over 500kb - with a viewstate of 300kb.

Has anyone else had this problem?

To replicate the problem, create a daily recurring event with a few lines in the description and set the view to List Events. Have a look at the page size and view the source.

By design, the Events module should limit the listed events either by number or by date, but due to a bug in the current version, this limitation doesn't work, so that the list can grow very long and cause performance problems. However, the new project team has fixed this bug for the next module version.

The list view uses a datagrid, which by default puts all columns into viewstate. I have reduced the number of columns storing data into viewstate, which should reduce the overall viewstate size. For the time being I cannot remove viewstate completely since it is needed for handling postbacks.
