When I add an item to the Store Catalogue and update, I receive a timed out error message and am told by the hoster that the application creates 100s of connections to the SQL database and brings the site down. The hoster indicates that there is a flaw in the applcation? Any idea what may be going on and how to resolve? TKS,

BB3

Bill,

I believe there are a couple of places in the core store that do not close data readers. This will cause the result you are seeing - do you have the means to edit the code yourself and re-compile? this may be your best bet for the time being.

take care,

Ian

Is this a new store installation?  Or an existing one with many products already added?

I ask because, although unclosed datareaders could potentially cause this kind of error, it seems unlikely that your store would suffer the issue (assuming that it is new) but no one else (at least no one who has posted here recently anyway) has the issue.

Which host do you use by the way?  Perhaps there are some particular restrictions in place that are causing the issues you describe.

Allan,

A client of ours had complained of this very problem and after recompiling the core store with two changes (closing datareaders) and pushing out to their site, we have not received any complaints since. Whether or not that is the problem in this case I do not know, but we shouldn't rule it out.

Take care,

Ian

Hey All,

Here is a post with more information, I didn't realize this was out there until now or I would have referenced it earlier.

Connections not being closed

Take care,

Ian
