Hi everyone,

Just doing some investigation for future portal development.

Currently I am working on an intranet portal with around 300 users and more than 1700 pages. Due to the expansion of the company I work for, they have created a new company to oversee several subsiduary companies and that means they've decided that they want to change their intranet portal strategy.

Ultimately there will be at least 4 portals. The parent portal will be home of information related to departments that service the entire group. It would be hosted on what we'll call domain A.  2 of the child portals will be accessed primarily by users from Domain A. The 3rd child portal will be accessed primarily by users who reside on another domain. (Domain B)

There will be a trust relationship established between the 2 domains, but I guess the thing I really need to know, is it going to be possible to allow the users of these 2 different domains to authenticate using Active Directory to provide access to these portals. In a perfect world the best scenario would be that Active Directory Authentication could be used to not only authenicate the user but to synchronise the portal roles which would be created as security roles within Active Directory.

Can anyone shed light on whether this might be possible?

Thanks,

Adrian

Hey Adrian

With the 01.00.04 beta (see the pinned post at the top of the forum) authentication shouldn't be a problem on the child portals anymore (it works for me and I haven't heard anything yet that it's not working for others). However synchronization may still be an issue across domains. In your scenario I think it will most likely occur on the parent portal (the way I read your post it'll have users from both domains). In the two child portals you'll be able to point them strictly to domain A and the third to domain B so synchronization should be fine on those two. Unfortunately I don't have the setup for two domains to test on. It's something that I want to get setup but there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day lately and I probably won't get a chance to look at it until I'm on holidays this summer.
