Some of my users are getting emails about new posts in the threads, some are not, and all of their profiles are settup correctly.  Also, the users that get emails also get them if they post.  I have had a few complaints that it is weird to get notification that you posted to your thread...

Thats not on DNN side, thats on client side.  Some E-Mail clients are see mails from webservers as a spam, so the users have check thier Junk folder, and Junkmail settings.  It can be it is fittered bei to E-Mail server too, so if it the client have ask his e-mail admin.

Okay, I will buy that arguement on why some get them and some don't.

Now, how come the users get notified when they post in their thread?

There are differnt ways.  The user can subscript for Forum groups in my settings, and on each thread and Forum in the footer checkbox.

Other way is you setting up Forums as Type Notofication, and sets the permissions for notification to the usergroups who have to get notifications.  Then the group/s become Notification allways without subscribtion.

Iam a little wondering of this question.  Have you read the Forum userguide, you can download from this page?

Mathias,

I appreciate your patience, but I think we are having a communication issue.  The users do not want to be notified when they post a reply in a thread they started, only when someone else posts a reply in it.  They already know that they posted.  For example, say user Jdoe starts a thread about how to install a part.  If jsmith answers, she wants an email to let her know.  If she then asks for further clarification, she does not want an email about the fact she just posted, she already knows that she just posted.  She does however, want an email when another user posts a reply inher thread so she knows to go look.
