I've got a few bugs.. 1st.  my site initially loads extremely slow.  Once its loaded its speed is normal..

i've noticed lately that while in the edit mode.. someitmes when I add an article or make any change to a page and click update.. the changes don't take effect and it auto switches back to view mode weird.

But overall i was able to skin the portal to my liking.  Check out the site i've made with it and you will see what i mean bout the slow loading  www.dolphinfitnessonline.com

The initial load is a .Net thing, you can alleviate this with a few things.

1. Look into a keep alive service, this service will hit your site on an interval you setup. By default IIS will turn off a site after 20 minutes of inactivity, so a keepalive should hit it more frequently than that.

2. Uninstall any modules that you aren't using, the more code you have to load on the intial load the longer the site will take.

What version of DNN are you running on? I personally haven't had the view/edit issue in quite some time, but I'm running mostly DNN 4.8.2

One reason why your site might be loading slow initially is because aspx pages are compiled the first time they are loaded. There is a setting some where in visual studio to have the pages compiled before you go public with them so it doesn't do that. Not sure if thats your problem, but I just remember reading that somewhere.

There is a smarter way to do this...

Just install smarterping on your server (installs as service)from smartertools which is a freely released application and is built for exactly these situations with the .asp issue. Smartertools har released it as freeware so you can also use it freely without any restrictions.

Info about it from their own site:

help.smartertools.com/SmarterPing/v1/FramesetRightFrame.html

You can download it from their own site or from softopedio among others...

http://www.google.com/search?q=smarterping&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

So no need of mods, paying keep alive services to keep you dnn site at "turbo speed"!

Cheers! :-)

Although DNN has proven to be extremely versatile, the slow initial load has become a deal-breaker for me for using Dot Net Nuke as the engine for several sites.
