I do not think my situation is related the issue in the original post.  No errors here.

I have a new portal that does not display the Edit Text link to get into the Rich Text Editor for Non-Administrators.  For Administrators id shows.

What I am trying to do is provide the RTE interface for users with editing permissions to a Text/HTML Module.  The Plain Text Editor is too limiting.

Are there permissions or settings involved to allow RTE for users or groups?

Thanks,
Zoome

the problem seems to be the missing "edit content" link, which is a missing feature in the container you applied. I suggest to use a container with the appropriate link, please contact your skin designer.

I'm not the original author of this thread, but I'm experiencing the same symptoms.
I'm using the default "DNN-Blue - Image Header - Color Background" container which definitely contains the [ACTIONBUTTON:1] and [ACTIONBUTTON:2] tokens which handle "add content" and "edit content".

I'm using DNN 04.05.03 with Text/HTML 04.05.00

On a page that is setup for viewing by all users but editing only by the administrator, I have added a text/html module which inherits the page view settings, but allows both administrators and "editors" ( a security role ) to edit its contents.  This module has its display container checkbox unchecked.

  1. Visiting the site without logging in, I see the text content and don't see the container.  This is as it should be.
  2. Logging in as the site administrator, I see the text content in the container and the "Edit Text" link is present and functional.  This is also as it should be.
  3. Logging in as an "editor", I see the text content in the container but no "Edit Text" link appears in the container footer or in the pull down menu.  This is not so good for me.
  4. Logging in as the host, I see the text content in the container  but no "Edit Text" link appears in the container footer or in the pull down menu.  This might be a clue as it suggests that ONLY the site administrator can edit the text using the WYSIWYG editor.

Logging back into the page as Administrator, I then changed the page settings so that it can still be viewed by all users but now can be editted by administrators and "editors".

  1. Logging in as an "editor", I now see the text content in the container with an "Edit Text" in the container footer and in the pull down menu.  Unfortunately, I also see the control panel, so my "editor" empowered users can add and move modules which is... not so good for me.

Hope this provides enough information.
Let me know if I've missed anything.

Thanks,

Part II

I'm still not the original author.

Here is a little more information.

When I signed on as the host, the system was in Design Mode.  I did not realize that it was a toggle and somehow had it set to the positive for the host account.
When as Host, I changed it to Edit Mode, and the "Edit Text" link reappeared.  I logged out then back in again as host and it stayed in Edit mode so that's one down.

When I signed on as the Admin, the system was in Edit Mode.  So that explains why that role never had a problem.

When I signed in as an "Editor", (at a time when Editors did not have page edit rights) I couldn't see the control panel so I don't know if I was in Design or Edit mode.
So I signed back in as host and gave editors page edit rights, then signed back in as an "Editor" hoping that the control panel would show Design mode and thus define why my "Editors" could only edit the text module content when they had page edit rights.

Unfortunately, when I signed in as the same editor user account which I've used throughout this test but who now had page edit rights, I found that the page was in
Edit mode and so, no explanation has yet to be found to my primary difficulty.

When accounts with my "Editor" role log into pages where they do not have page-edit rights, they do not get the "Edit Text" link on text/html modules where they should have module-edit rights.  And this isn't just another symptom of the Edit/Design mode chaos.

I'm off to study the source code to the Text/HTML module if I can find it.  Let me know if this makes sense to you.

Peace and Gratitude,

Colt

Have you had any luck coming up with a fix to the problem? I too have also created a "Editor" role and assigned people to that role and then set the permissions on a module so that they can edit the content without being able to edit the page. All I see when I log in as that user is the edit icon (the little blue square thingy) rather than the actions drop down menu allowing the user to display the whole editor.

Very frustrating so far without a fix. We have a site for a company that employees nearly 300,000 people and I, and another host, are the only ones that can edit the content.

Any help would be wonderful!!
