First let me say that I am just relaying this infor for our real developers who sent me here to see if anyone could help, so please pardon my lack of intelligent response to your questions!

We have recently created a new type of control panel within our DNN sites that is a verticle, expandible navigation menu that sites to the right of our sites when logged in as an admin, rather than along the top.  Part of the reason for this design was to minimize the amount of scrolling that users have to do to work within the panes on their pages.  In fact, we went so far as to make the header of the sites un-viewable when logged in as an administrator (since it never really changes for our type of customers) in order to bring the entire "work area" (all the panes) as high on the page as possible.    If anyone wants to see this, just ask...

Anyhow, our next step in this design was to create the ability to "drag & drop" modules onto the page from our new control panel into the pane where the end user wants the module placed.  And here is where we get choked up...

Since DNN already had the drag & drop capability built into it for moving modules around on the page, what would it take to utilize that same API, or a similar one, to drag modules onto a page?  If anyone has any input into this idea or can help, PLEASE let us know.  We have a large customer who is waiting for us to finallize this process before signing on with us for a sizable contract, and we are kind of stumped on how to pull this off.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

Rob

Rob, I haven't done anything like you're wanting to do but, generally, when I'm trying to recreate a process that's already in the core I hunt through the core code to see how it's done. I suspect a reference to the API is all you need. I'm not sure who was in charge of getting that implemented into the core code but I think it was Jon Henning. Perhaps you could try contacting him for pointers.

Edit: I just did some searching in the core code. Look at Skin.vb and ClientAPI.vb. In particular "EnableContainerDragAndDrop"
