I installed DNN sucessfully and started playing with it a while ago. I changed my admin & host password etc. I now want to log in again but the login option does not return the usual screen for me to log in, it just defaults back to the homepage I created. What am I doing wrong?

Perhaps you changed the "login" page to be the homepage, but didn't put the login module on the page before you did this? If that is the case, in the Portals table there will be a column for Login Page TabId, make that value Null, then reset your site by modifying your web.config, and try logging in again.
