I am working on my first skin and with the help of Brandon Haynes have finally figured out how to successfully install my skin package.

Although I have read the DNN Skinning Guide and have studied other skin examples, I have not run across the documentation which explains the functionality of Host|Skins|Edit Skin Attributes nor how these attributes might be surfaced by the skin developer.

Can anyone direct me to the proper documentation for these items?

In Christ,

Chris

They're probably in the skinnning doc, but you can also look at this site for reference: http://www.thinkofdesign.com/resources/reference.html

Make sure you click on the dark grey bars for more info - it's not at all obvious.

That section you're seeing in the host menu for editing skin attributes is new and very useful. Normaly you would need to change the XML or ASCX files of your skin as uplaod them again, but now you can edit these things on the live skin via that section - very nice!

I haven't tried it myself yet, but it brings up questions such as - does it only apply to the ASCX file or does it attempt to alter the XML file as well if it is present.

Give it a shot and let's see what happens.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your response.

I am already familiar with the skin attributes as documented in the skinning guide and other sources across the net. What I was looking for was documentation pertaining to new Edit Skin Attributes section in the Host menu. The section being new is probably why I had difficulty finding documentation for it. Nonetheless, I have been experimenting with it and understand its functionality now. In answer to your question, it modifies the XML file.

What I was hoping for, was a way to establish a user-defined skin object and be able to edit its attributes via the Edit Skin Attributes section in the Host menu. More specifically, what I was hoping to accomplish was to have a single skin file, which could have certain attributes, such as (but not limited to) the background color for a particular pane, customizable by the host, without having to maintain a separate skin file for each supported setting.

In Christ,

Chris
