I all of the sudden am getting this upgrade notice -- that comes automatically -- and it does not navegate back to the site when I click the link "Click here to access your portal", it just continues to do the upgrade and it's an endless loop. How do I get out of this?

your database structure and content is updated to a newer version than the files on your site. I suggest to upgrade the files to 4.8.4, which fixes a number of security updates as well, and the database will be upgrades the same time. Always keep files and database in sync and back up the same time!
