A critical error has occurred. The text, ntext, and image data types cannot be compared or sorted, except when using IS NULL or LIKE operator.

I am getting this error after installing and using Universal List on my site and playing with it a bit. The only thing that I changed that could even possibly make a difference was changing a numerical field's scale (decimal places) to 2. I don't think that's the problem. I deleted the instance of the module and uninstalled it and it's still giving me the error.

Anyone have any ideas what this is and how to fix it?

I may have found the problem. I believe that I may have changed a the column "AdvCatName" in the table Cat_AdvCats to ntext by accident. I looked at other Catalook installs and they are all nvarchar(50) without nulls allowed. I went to change it back in SQL Server and when trying to save the table it gives a warning pop-up that two other tables (CAT_AdvCatProducts and CAT_AdvCatPermissions) will be saved too. I think this is because they are tied with the key AdvCatID. I sent an email to Catalook to see if it's OK.

Problem solved. Yes, it was that column. I saved and it warned me that I could lose data changing from ntext to nvarchar(50) but since no categories are names longer than 50 characters, no problem. So a word of advice to Universal List customers... it's a really cool module, but you can easily screw something up. Be careful!
