Here you can create a fresh portal install just for you, and it will be up and running for at least 24 hours (end of the following day).

Hey, give it a try! When I first started with DNN I bought it just watching the video which Sebastian Leupold points to on his post above.

go to http://demo.dotnetnuke.com/ for a DNN demo.

Demo Portal Signup allows you to create your very own Portal Website and experiment with its advanced features for 2 days.

At any time during or after the trial period, you can convert your Demo Portal into a Registered Portal by logging in as the Administrator and selecting the Renew/Extend Your Portal Subscription link in the Admin tab. 
(Registered Portals have the added benefit of using their own domain name ( ie. www.yourdomain.com ) as their Web address.)

(you will find comparisons between not just mambo and dotnetnuke, but also many others like: drupal, plone, joomla, contentM etc)
