Hi

I know similar problems have been discussed already but none are quite the same as mine and are without solution. I have a number of forums set up as Notification Forums. In one of these forums on the permissions grid, one Role group is selected to receive notifications. There are 11 users in this group. The two forum background email send tasks are enabled in the scheduler, 'Enable notifications' and 'Enable email queue task' are checked and the SMTP settings are correct with a successful SMTP test.

The problem is that an inconsistent number of emails are sent out each time a post is made, ranging so far from 8-10 out of the 11. The problem is particularly insidious because I can't always be sure who hasn't received the notification emails.

Does anyone know what might be going on?

Many thanks in advance,

Tom

Can it be that there are incorrect emal adresses by the users where no notification is sending?  Check there Settings in the Forum user manager.  Read the manual http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Products/Development/Forge/ModuleForums/Downloads/tabid/823/Default.aspx

Thanks Matthias, you set me thinking and I think I've found the problem but not the solution:

Everything is set up correctly for notifications, including the correct email addresses for all the users in the users page of the forum module (they are loaded in from Active Directory). However, even though the users show up in the list, unless the user has actually visited the forum, notifications are not sent to them- even though they appear in the forum user list having been loaded in from the DNN user list.

Therefore, is there some way that I can force whatever is 'activating' the user in the forum without having all users physically log in and visit the forum? Our setup would work perfectly if so, as it can't be guaranteed that they will have visited the forum before a notification will need to be sent to them.

Many thanks,

Tom

This is since the Forum Module have notification.  Its by Design, and I did not have a other solution at time.

Hi Matthias, thanks for the reply.

I'm afraid I didn't quite understand what you meant by that, would you be able to explain it differently for me please? I wondered if there was an SQL query (?) that could activate the users from DNN on the forum without them actually visiting.

Many thanks

Tom
