 I have a DNN site that is currently running the latest version (4.8.2).  Over the site's lifespan, it has been updated numerous times.  I noticed that in the last upgrade, the validationKey attribute of the MachineKey element of the config changed from a hexidemal to AutoGenerate,IsolateApps.   When I did the upgrade and afterwards, the site seemed to be working fine.

Yesterday my host moved my site to another server and since then I have recieved numerous intermittent errors which seem to be the result of a postback:

DNN Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.

I seem to have resolved this by putting the original value of the validationKey.   I know that this setting was altered to address a security flaw in DNN.  I would rather not have it.  Is there something I need to do to the database or otherwise to get the machinekey to work correctly with AutoGenerate,IsolateApps?

I would appreciate any detailed explaination you could give.

I believe that the security issues was just that some sites were using the default machine key.  If you aren't using the default (F9D1A2D3E1D3E2F7B3D9F90FF3965ABDAC304902), then you should be fine.
