Hi, we upgraded our Intranet site from 4.4.1 to 4.8.2 last week. That went smoothly and everything worked.

Now we have just tried to upgrade some of the modules to the latest versions. Documents was the first module i tried, upgraded fine but now we cannot open any documents.

This is the error:

What does this translate to in leymans terms?

The error is happening when DotNetNuke is trying to create an instance of the DotNetNuke.Modules.DocumentsSqlDataProvider class.  Check your /bin folder to make sure you have a DotNetNuke.Modules.Documents.SqlDataProvider.dll.  Also make sure (in IIS settings) that you are running in ASP.NET 2.0, and compare your web.config with the release.config file in the dotnetnuke folder to make sure everything's ok there - there were some changes between 4.4->4.8 (the httpModules section points to a different file for most of the core httpModules, for example).

Actually, if he is installing the latest 04.00.00 version of the Documents module, there should NOT be a DotNetNuke.Modules.Documents.SqlDataProvider.dll in the /bin folder. I have seen this similar error when upgrades to the core framework and modules have not successfully removed obsolete .dll files.

Try REMOVING the DotNetNuke.Modules.Documents.SqlDataProvider.dll from the /bin folder.

I had the same problem.

I deleted DotNetNuke.Modules.Documents.SqlDataProvider.dll file from the bin folder and it fixed the problem.
