Hi

I went through all the install instructions, did everything as instructed and successfully got to the point where it said the installation is complete and to click on the link to go to my portal.  When I click on the link to go to my portal, I get the following error in the page.

 An unhandled error has occurred.

In the address bar for the browser, the following shows up:

http://localhost/Default.aspx?tabid=36&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0

I'm not sure where to start looking for the problem.  I thought once the installation went through with no problem, it should be fine from there.  I don't see any other error messages.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

What version of DNN did you install?

Try closing your browser, restart IIS, and then access http://localhost/ again.

Hi

I'm using DNN 4.0.2 on Win XP PRO and SQL Server 2000.  I just tried your suggestion (close browser and restart IIS), but that didn't work.

I think I should mention also that I tried to do the installation right against the web root as opposed to creating a virtual directory pointing to a separatre dotnetnuke folder.

In other words, I copied all the files from the installation folder and pasted them right against the web root.

Would this make a difference?  I was trying to get a situation where the site is called up directly as http://localhost as opposed to http://localhost/dotnetnuke
