I have been fighting this install problem since last Thursday.

I downloaded the Source Package, extracted to another directory, set up iis web site, created the database, renamed release.config, set all permissions as directed (set for both "asp net" and "network service" as I am setting it up on my localhost first so we can figure out how to migrate the rainbow portal tables to DNN.

Has anyone gone through this routine before?  How difficult was it?

Any help, advice, etc. would be appreciated.

This is the screen I get when I navigate to the site.

DotNetNuke

DotNetNuke Error: - Version 04.08.02

DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Access to the path 'C:\DotNetNuke\Website\web.config' is denied.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to Disable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

  • If using Windows 2000 - IIS5
    1. the [SERVER]\ASPNET User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website.
  • If using Windows 2003 - IIS6
    1. the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website.

Image showing the security settings for the root folder of the website must be set to Read, Write and Change Control for the ASPNET or NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE accounts. Return to Site

Finally got past the access denied problem - have now hit the authentication services problem and have tried all suggestions in forums.

Here is the error I get:

Authentication Services

Is there a good install guide anywhere out there?

Finally completely installed.  Now I need to figure out how the Rainbow Portal database corresponds to the DNN database and if it is going to be possible to write a script to do the largest portion of the migration.

A good portion of the problems I had were related to the asp net account we (another developer and myself) were adding was the network asp net account and not the local machine account.  The other problems were caused by not starting over at the very beginning.  (Trying to save work didn't work)

Could you explain how you solved each of these problems.  I ran into them all today myself.  I initially had the website defined in my VS2005/Websites folder and that would not work.  I kept getting access errors even after I authorized ASPNET.  I finally moved the source to a different directory on my C:\ drive and got the website to build.  Now I can not figure out how to use the solution file so I can rebuild the whole thing from scratch!!!
