Hi

I am not good at DNN  or designng but probably quite good at copy-paste nad it got me this far... whenever I was making a skin it was basic and I just took the css file that I like and changed it a bit.

Today  I want to make my own  for the first time , and I need to state values for body background, breadcrumbs, current date, menu... my menu is a gradient line with different gradient on roll over and separator, syb menu items are also gradient and also changing on roll over, how to make it correctly? I am totally lost with all the

.MainMenu_MenuContainer
.MainMenu_MenuBar
.MainMenu_MenuItem
.MainMenu_MenuIcon
.MainMenu_SubMenu
.MainMenu_MenuBreak
.MainMenu_MenuItemSel
.MainMenu_MenuArrow
.MainMenu_RootMenuArrow

what stand  for what?

I also like the font name century gothic and I wanted it to be on menu, but I guess not everycomp has it ...so if I say font century gothic I think I will have to also show the fonts that I can use as a replacement, am I correct ?

please help!

Start with the CSS from a defualt skin and modify what you want in it.  As for your font, you can specify an order of preference, check any decent CSS reference for syntax.

hi

I have found this page to help me through http://www.skinningtoolkit.com/DOTNETNUKECLASSES/SolpartMenu/tabid/109/Default.aspx  BUT still there is one question left unaswered... I want  my menu to have separators, and I have implemented it here once http://www.tajagroup.com/ now I want  the separators to change when the item is selected... to look like this

black on mouse off and green on mouse over, star separetor but as you can see the staris positioned half way on black half on green if rolled over. HEEEEELP! how do I get this to work?

Also I worry if I use this font ( Century Gothic ) and the user who comes to my site don't have it, the browser will change the font ??? and then it will not look nice... how can I attach ( ?)  font to make sure anyone who comes see it the way it should look

thanks for your help!

First the font.  Don't use fonts that aren't universal.  There are many things you can't control about display of your site, and fonts are one of them.  The user can always force their own fonts.  Microsoft has (had?) the web embedding fonts tool to force fonts into the browser, but I'm pretty sure it only worked on IE.

There's no built-in method of using the separators as you want.  You could swicth to a different menu, such as the House menu or Snapsis, which uses CSS and then use graphics for your menu.

Another option, if the design is a *must* is to create a skin with a static DHTML / Flash menu for the users, then create a skin with SolPart / Dynamic Menu for the Admins. Biggest problem here would be that the menu won't automatically update when you add/remove pages or change their heiarchy. Each time you wanted to change the menu, you would have to edit the static menu in whatever app you used to create it. Unfortunately as Jeff pointed out, fonts are limited when it comes to web-based media as there are only ~6-7 "Web-safe" fonts and the rest are just not reliable (may work on your machine since you have the font, but not everyone can be guaranteed to have the same font, especially if it has usage restrictions).

Personally, what I do in cases like this is I have the "fancy" navigation on the first page (flash header, custom menu, etc.) and then every other page has a more DNN-friendly design.

Hope this helps some,

SB
