I’m in a bit of a predicament…… I can’t make changes to my own web site! I solely own my site and am the only one with access into the domain registrar records, etc. A couple of years ago I hired someone to design and host my site, which they did using an early dotnetnuke version (this was 2005). I had been given an ADMIN username/password at the time and made all my own updates using dnn’s templates. Everything has been fine, except for the past year my host/designer has disappeared. Phone number and email changed and his web site that advertises his hosting services is no longer up and running. My site is, since I purchased a chunk of his hosting, but a few days ago it was down for 5 days and just recently came back up. I don’t want this to keep happening so I need to switch hosts. The problem is, as an ADMIN, when I log in I don’t see any place to back-up the site or download files from it so I can then upload them with the new host. Where is all this stored, or is it only with his account, the host account? In that case how do I get them- since I don’t have his log-in info as a host since he’s M.I.A? I’m just worried because I risk losing everything- including a flash intro, archived content and 1200 members on my forums. ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Thanks!!!!

With just DNN Admin logins there isn't a way of backing up your web site. Are you sure you don't have any FTP access?

Another possible source to get contact info for your host would be the whois for the domain of the host or by ascertaining who thier upstream provider is and contacting them to see if they can provide you with the details or they 'might' (and its a big might) be able to help you directly.

I think you are going to be lucky to get a working back up from what you have said. Sorry not to be more hopeful.

There was nothing he stated in his emails during this time that would indicate I have ftp access and when I had a more tech-savvy friend log in under my username and snoop around he couldn't find anything either. I think I'm a bit screwed in this situation. As far as the host goes I did do a whois look-up and told them my situation, how my host is m.i.a they told me something about him buying a block of hosting services from them and told me there was nothing they could do- quite carelessly actually.

Anyway I appreciate your help- in the very least while it's still up & running I can copy and paste all my articles and attempt to save my forums.

Oh yes the host/designer who went missing is Oscar Trelles his company was called Sly Networks, quite a fitting name- in case anyone knows any contact info.

Thanks again!!

Based on the information you have provided, you are sure in for an interesting time.  You don't by chance happen to know a host user account for the portal?  If you happened to have a host account you would have a bit more power.

You can probably get all the data from the site, but with only the admin-account it will be extremly time consuming.

You mention the flash intro...if users or you as an admin can see it, then you wont loose it.
