Also, looking at the exported template, although the pages for the various languages have been exported, there appears to be no language identifier exported either for pages or for modules. So it looks as if this method definitely will not work for ML sites, at least in 5.6.1.

Just tried the same process with DNN6. Though there was no error in import, the resultant portal was not created with Content Localization enabled, though all of the languages of the original site were enabled. Only pages in the default language were imported, so you have to begin the translation process again.

On examining the template file, no language identifiers are exported.

Looks like some improvements have been made over DNN 561, but there is still some way to go.

AFAIK there are still known issues with portal templates, which haven't been fixed yet. sorry.

Thanks for the confirmation, Sebastian. Do you know if there is any trusted third-party tool for copying or exporting/importing portals?
