OK, this may sound crazy, but it worked.  First of all, I had the exact same error in DNN 4.92.  I read a forum post somewhere that said to bring over a fresh copy of the "DNN/admin/Host/hostsettings.aspx" from the original install download.  Luckily, I decided to rename the existing one before I brought the new copy in.

So, I renamed the old one and brought in the new file, restarted IIS services, closed the browser (IE6), opened a new one, went to the site and logged in using the Host account.  I got the same "Error: Host Settings is currently unavilable." message.  Bummer.

After thinking about it for a while, I decided I'd better roll it back in case this was not the issue causing this error -- I threw away the newly copied over  "hostsettings.ascx" and renamed the old file back to "hostsettings.ascx".  Just for peace of mind, I decided to close the browser, restart IIS again, visit the site in a new browser instance, login using the Host account... and BOOM! ... the Host settings interface was working again.

I hope this works for you too.

And, um.... can anyone explain why this worked?

Cheers!
