I have been working on custom module developments for a few weeks now, constantly testing the site.

Today after making a small change to one of my modules, I refreshed the DNN website on my local machine, and  not all the menus are showing. Only "Home" and one other custom tab is showing. I logged in as admin, and still the same - Not even the "Admin" tab is visible. Same with host account or any other.

I did not make any chnages to the skin or any DNN modules. I did not make any changes to the web.config file either. No ISS changes and no database connection changes.

I can not seem to debug anything to do with the loading of the menu because VS tells me that the symbols are not loaded (I can debug my custom moduls though).

I have checked the "Tabs" table in the database to see if anything looks odd there, but I can't find anything strange looking.

Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to fix this!!!??

For anyone that is having the same problem, I eventually restarted my machine and it sorted itself out... Not sure why, but now it works fine.

I run into strange stuff like this all the time when developing other ASP.NET applications and DNN solutions.  I usually blame runtime oddities like you ran into on a messed up DNN session or cache.  Often "restarting" DNN either by touching the web.config file or using the "Restart Application" link on the Host -> Host Settings page will clear up problems.  Sometime I have to kill the ASP.NET worker process if stuff is really messed up.

Build strangeness is usually resolved by "clearing the ASP.NET cache" which means shutting down my web servers (IIS and/or Cassini) and then deleting all the files in the "<WINDOWS>\Microsoft.NET\Framework\<FRAMEWORK VERSION>\Temporary ASP.NET Files".

These approaches save time as they are usually much faster than a whole system restart.
