I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place to post for this question but I'm pretty desparate at the moment to get a live ecommerce site back up and running. I have a DNN 4.8 install with Catalook 5.5. For some reason it seems that after I change the folder structure of the Portals/0 folder the images in the Catalook store disappear, and the URL references in the database too. I was wondering if this might be a folder permissions issue or if it's just a bug with Catalook. I noticed that when I go to add the photo in Catalook that it doesn't show up in the dropdown selector, but the photos show up in the DNN file manager and Text/HTML image gallery. I tried resynching the files after upload but that didn't help. Also cleared the Catalook cache and DNN cache and restarted the app. I also submitted a support request to Catalook but they shrugged it off and said it was my "provider" running a script on the server. I'm with PowerDNN so I don't think so. I also submitted a post to catalooksupport.com and am waiting. Don't know what to do from here. Any ideas from the DNN community?

Hi

I got the same problem started about a week
I switched from Server 2003 to Server 2000. I dont know if its related to that. It actually started after the switch.

The images disaapear after a few hours and not to all products - only to new ones inserted on the new server.

Did you find a solution ?

Really desperate .

Hi Lior. In a word, YES, I did find a solution. I'm moving to ASPDOTNETSTOREFRONT, the NON-DNN version. Well, I think at least. I'm on the demo now it is so incredible that I want to cry knowing how long I've been wasting my time with Catalook! Catalook IS a very robust piece of software but I've encountered way too many bugs and had too many issues trying to find out how to do some simple things. It seems like every time something changes, be it a DNN version, Catalook version, shared dll's, changing servers etc etc etc, things go wrong. I'm in dire need of a working platform and DNN/Catalook just isn't cutting it. Maybe when Cambrian comes out it'll be better, but I'm not going to count on it. Developing on DNN is such a "here and now" kind of thing, where module developers are struggling to keep up with the changes to DNN. If you can get everything working correctly, DON'T TOUCH IT ANYMORE! Don't upgrade, add modules or change any code. You just might wind up regretting it. Flexibility in the beginning, a hell of a lot of troubleshooting, and then perhaps, just maybe you'll get a working site that you are scared to do anything with in the future due to the extensive troubleshooting involved.

An example for you... I just did a site for a client who had hired a DNN developer who had them buy 5 grand in skins and modules and then took off with them, leaving them with a mediocre site. They came to me to redesign it and when I told them they needed to upgrade the IT guys were very resistant. They wanted no involvement in that process as they had experienced serious issues before. Just goes to show how scary and unstable DNN is. The sad thing is, I didn't blame them at all for not wanting to be involved.

I don't want to turn this into a DNN bashing thread, but I've reached my limit.

Well, I guess all this time that I've been complaining about all the problems I've been encountering with DNN and Catalook, I may have been wrong. It has come to my attention that someone very well may have been sabotaging my biggest site, causing a lot of unnecessary headaches on top of the plethora of tiny things you have to solve when working with DNN. Throw in a few fabricated show stoppers and you have a person at their wits end ready to quit. So here I am totally flip flopping on this whole DNN thing again. I don't know what to think anymore. Arggg! It pains me to think that I've been banging my head against a wall for the last year and a half because someone was screwing with me.
