I installed 4.3.4 about a year and a half ago as our internal intranet at work and it's been running fine.  I figured it was time I upgraded just to keep everything up-to-date so I downloaded an upgrade package and obviously the first thing I need to do is to back everything up.  However, when I try to back up the DNN folder it hits a brick wall at the database folder saying that it is in use.  I've tried stopping the SQL Server and stopping the site in IIS but I can't seem to free the lock up on it.  I'm guessing it's something blindlingly obvious as I don't really dabble in Windows/DNN stuff so I've forgotten most of how I set things up in the first place!  Any info would be much appreciated.

I do not have a directory called "database" in any of my Dotnetnuke solutions. What is in that directory? Could this be something you or another programmer customized?

John

Think you mean "App_Data" when say "database folder". You need to zip all folders without  "App_Data". Database should be backed up in another way, from hosting Control Panel or Enterprise Manager (if you have permissions). It depends on what hosting provider do you use.
