Hello

I have followed steps given in ReadMe in Install package. I have gone through all steps in StarterKit. That was fine but then I don't get any option while I open web.config in  MS Visual Studio2005. Another question, readme says replace release.config with  name "web.config" but web.config is alreadyt here so should I replace it?

It will be really helpful if anybody can guide me earliest.

Thanks.

There is no need to replace the web.config if it is already there.  That statement is pretty old.  The web.config has been included in the install for some time now.   Be sure that you read the install instructions thoroughly, as it is very easy to miss something in the install.  Additionally, Mitch Sellers has some great tutorials on installing DNN.

Your subject is XML parsing error, which hints that you don't have ASP.NET configured on your server.  Post the full error.

I'm getting one too.

Here is the whole error.

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: http://localhost/DNN_490_Source/
Line Number 1, Column 2:<%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" Explicit="True" Inherits="DotNetNuke.Framework.DefaultPage" CodeFile="Default.aspx.vb" %>
-^

The pointer (underscore then caret "-^" that is..) is pointing to the % sign after "Line Number 1, Column 2:<".

In my case, the same error is showing for different attempted installations of 4.8.4 (vsi) and 4.9.0 (compiled solution in VS2008).

I've checked the permissions over and over.
I'm running the solution under VS2008 converted from .NET 2.0.

I know it's something simple I've overlooked, but I'm losing sleep and hair here.

Have you tried not converting the app to 3.5?  Do you really want to use the Starter Kit?
