Hi

I am trying to dump the SearchEngineScheduler task as I use another search tool and I want to make my site faster. The problem is that the RSS functionality (which I use heavily) is tied into this schedule item. I want to make a scheduled task that only runs the rss feeds and skips the overhead of monitoring the entire site. Is this even possible? Is there a good source for instructions out there?

Thanks
Mike

While I haven't yet taken a look at the source code of the Search Scheduler Item, or what it calls, you should be able to create a scaled down version of the scheduler class to call the RSS population.  However, I must ask...  Does your new provider require that the original DNN search task item be disabled completely?  Why doesn't the new one include the RSS functionality if it does?  That is a very significant question for the vendor.

That being said, creating a scheduler item is very easy if you are a programmer (even a novice).  Check out the documentation.

Hi
You bring up a very good point! I may have the settings incorrect on my new search tool. I did not consider the fact that that may be the issue. I only knew that once I turned off the dnn search task that the rss stopped. I did not look further into the possibility that the new search tool may be able to take on that task. I will look into it. I only wanted the search schedule turned off as our site is a bit of a slow poke, just trying to squeeze every ounce of effeciency we can out of the system.
Thanks!
Mike

That's what I figured.  I would be concerned as well.  That being said, if it were me, I would recreate the scheduler to only take care of the RSS portion as my own DLL.  Then enable that one.
