I am creating a site with three portals - English (main), Latvian and Russian.

I was able to setup the menus for the Latvian portal fine.  When I setup the pages in Russian, I was able to setup all the pages with the Russian names, however, when I went to change the Home page name, it let me do so, however, I now get a critical error whenever I try to add pages or edit page settings in that portal.

For all of the pages in both the Latvian and Russian portals, I just Added pages and copied and pasted the translated page names from Notepad - everything worked fine, until I change the home page name in the Russian portal.

I did add Latvian and Russian to Supported Locales when I first setup the portals, but I have not done anything with any ML solutions.  Since everything was working ok I was hoping I did not need to do anything more... but now I am concerned this is only one of the many problems I may end up experiencing as I start adding content without taking some additional steps.

I have reviewed several postings, but I am not sure what next steps to take.  Do I need to install language packs and an ML solution (if so, do you have a recommendation for one that would resolve the home page menu)  I would REALLY appreciate being pointed in the right direction and any recommendations.

you can either use 3 different menu's, one per language and use a central landing page (e.g. with autoforwarding, like free PortalRedirect module from www.effority.net) and you will need to use a menu showing the language specific branch of the menu tree as well. This will give you 3 "virtual" portals with independent content.

Another approach would be using ML solution for page and menu localization using the same pages for multiple languages and using ML module as well - this is ideal, if all languages shall display same content localized.
