If the SQL server where my content is stored is unavailable, what will DNN do by default?
Can I have DNN always keep a local copy of the content on disk as a backup and display that when the database server is down?
If someone could point me in the right direction to how DNN handles database outages, that would be great.

Not respond at all.  The content database IS DNN.  The only viable alternative to not going down is to use a hardware failover system, clustering, NLB, hardware fail-over or load balancers, etc.

The appropriate method with which to handle this issue is ensuring that SQL Server is never unavailable in the first place.  Using some sort of ad hoc disk storage system misses the point -- look into SQL Server failover clustering (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=818234dc-a17b-4f09-b282-c6830fead499&displaylang=en) and other means by which you can avoid the problem in the first place.

Bottom line: DNN will need continual access to the database to function.

Hi

Consider using a sql2005 data base mirror. for a little extra security and performance.

I'll have to look into our options for mirroring/clustering.
