Jeff-

ListX will do what you need.  The new version of ListX, called Open Web Studio, which is in beta now will be open source so you could use it on as many portals as you wish.  If you need good workflow capabilities Enterprise forms is the best bet.  I just took another look at EF as their new release will allow you to connect to external databases (As Michael said above).  I may be wrong, but it didn't appear to me that EF was very strong on the data display side of things. i.e. Datagrid with detail button that takes you to another page with details of the record and additional modules showing related data for that record from other tables.

Indoogrid might also do what you need but it's licensing is very strict.

Hope this helps

Greg

Thanks all for the interesting info,

ListX looks impressive in its own right and OWS sounds really interesting.  Would ListX developed forms migrate to OWS?

Yes, ListX forms will migrate to OWS.  Plus OWS forms will be able to be used in both DNN AND Sharepoint.

One downside to ListX is that it is a bit more difficult to use and the documentation is pretty light.  Support is pretty good through their forums though.

form Master 1.6 from Code 5 Systems. I've been using it for sites/clients for awhile now. Very good module and very easy to use.
