Hi,

I have created a custom skin which works great on the front end. My issue is that when logged in, the page breaks around certain
modules because of the container and because anything with a runat="server" has this style added to it by DNN:

style="border-top:1px #CCCCCC dotted;border-bottom:1px #CCCCCC dotted;
border-right:1px #CCCCCC dotted;border-left:1px #CCCCCC dotted;"

My question is.... is there a way to remove these dotted borders? Also does anyone have a suggestion on how to show the functions

needed for the container, without taking up the space so that the page won't look out of whack for the client editing the site.
For example, on the page below, the text/html module in the mast causes the a huge gap in the page.
The site is here: http://council94.emboldendesign.com/DefaultPermissions/AboutUs/tabid/64/Default.aspx.
A screen shot of the back is here:http://council94.emboldendesign.com/Portals/0/images/work.jpg
thanks,
sj

Hi
The dotted borders are there to show the content panes in a meaningful way to the end user that wants to edit the page. So I am curious why you think it is not necessary. The editor at any time can click preview to see the page as it appears not in edit mode. A professional editor is likely to open FireFox and IE and login as admin in one and view in other so to speed up edit and view process.
Finally with regards to the excessive spaces in admin, I don’t really see any issues in page looking broken when in edit. once in preview one should see how it appears to end users.

There are two approaches to it. You can either override the CSS file to hide the borders or you can specify a different CSS file to load on the page when users logged in as an admin role. This article helps to understand CSS precendence in DotNetNuke if you wish to pursue the first approach.

Hope this helps!

Hi Salar,

Yes, I know the dotted borders are necessary to differentiate the content panes, but in many of my custom skins, something is taking up space that causes the page to break either vertically, horizontally or both (usually only in IE6) so I wanted to see if eliminating these would do the trick. You are right that this shouldn't matter to a professional editor, but many of our clients edit their own sites and are lay people using IE6. They find it very confusing to edit a page whose admin layout view is different from the front end view. It looks like the post following yours has a solution that will work for me. Thanks for your reply.

Hi,
For the first approach, do you know where the dotted pane border style reside? When I look at the source, they are inline so I can't figure out how to override. If I can't get the first approach, specifying a different CSS file to load when logged in will work for me. Thanks for your reply.
