HI,

I am building an intranet. Some users will be on our domain and can use windows active directory. We will also have users on the WAN but not on the active directory. If I add forms auth in the web.config, I can't log in via windows. Yes I tried using domain\username .authentication mode="forms"><forms name=".DOTNETNUKE" protection="All" timeout="60" cookieless="UseCookies" />

</authentication>

When I set the it to Windows auth. I can not logout and log in via forms log in.

<authentication mode="Windows">

I was able to use both modes before upgrading to 4.6.2. any Ideas?

Are you using the Active Directory provider (setup your connection to the AD under Admin->Authentication) or were you doing it the whole time previously just by changing the web.config?

I was changing the web.config . It worked with AD and forms that way.

With the release of version 4.6 there was a major overhaul of the login providers and I wonder if that may have played a role in it. Unfortunately I don't personally have a lot of experience with switching between or trying to use both in the web.config itself. However, I'd suggest taking another look at the AD Provider. The way it's setup now you can have both for manual logins and you can specify IP ranges for automatic logins. I've currently got a version in the DNN Release Tracker but the same version can be downloaded from my personal site (http://dnn.gmss.org).

Mike,

Ok I think I have it figured out. When Using forms auth in the web.config and logging with AD, DNN tries to sinc the roles between dnn and AD. I had assign myself roles in dnn that I didn't have else where.  It choked on that. I asked my coworkers login and out. It worked for them. Well that and hooked on phonics.  Anyway just more info for you.

Thank you once again.

Regards,

Brent
