My question is a bit difficult to explain but I will give it a shot.

Well my situation is this. I have the dotnet framework installed on the system and a project developed using it for a website portal which is up and running, so it used a database say DotNetNuke.

I would like to know if I can use the same framework to create another portal for a different Database. If so how do I go about doing it. I do know that while configuring dotnetnuke we made change to the connection string in the web.config.

So I am really confused.

You would need a new DNN install to use the second database.  But you can do a portal, child or parent, using the same install and same database.  It all depends on what you really need.
