Is there any such things as an empty module? I am looking for the most basic module that has all of the facilities to act as a module. This includes whatever is required to implement settings, accept roles, have its own ModuleSettings etc. This is purely so I can learn how it all works and start playing around with it prior to writing a real one. It is probably somewhere in the documentation, but I've missed it.

Probably one of the best things to get you started is what I used.  The ATGen SDK.  You just give it a table and it generates a full functional but completely empty module.

You can then go look at how the admin controls, DAL and business logic are created without all the other surounding stuff that makes something like say the events module.  It's very usful.  Another good thing is once you get the hang of things you can use it to help create your real modules.

I can't remember the link to it right off but look for posts from Crispy.  He a core team member that wrote it and it's linked in his signature.

Cheers,

If you're working with VS.NET 2003 you could try my templates for vs.net. This will create the basic skeleton for a module by just a few mouse clicks.
The HelloWorld tutorial on my site could also give you some points on the struture of a very simple module.
